In 1996 a group of university and corporate leaders in higher education, science and R&D policy joined together to form The Washington Advisory Group.

As well as being scientists and engineers, these founding directors operated at the highest levels of the research enterprise. They included three former Presidential Science Advisors and leaders of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, Argonne National Laboratory, General Motors Research Laboratories, and Cornell University.

The Washington Advisory Group was founded in the belief that strategic advisory services provided by leaders with broad and deep practical experience could be helpful to the leaders of other organizations involved in higher education, science policy, and research and development.

Over the years, the Washington Advisory Group has added directors with leadership experience at organizations such as UCLA, Case Western Reserve University, Ohio State University, Harvard Medical School, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Since its inception The Washington Advisory Group has been distinguished by experience-based judgment and analysis and the ability to offer clients candid and independent assessments. Over the past decade the company has undertaken and completed nearly 200 advisory engagements.
