C. Thomas Caskey advises on biotechnology and biomedical projects. Dr. Caskey is Director and CEO-Elect The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine as well as Executive Vice President for Molecular & Genetics of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He served as Chief Executive Officer and President of Cogene Ventures.
Dr. Caskey was Senior Vice President, Research at Merck Research Laboratories from 1994 to 2000 and Trustee and President of the Merck Genome Research Institute from 1999 to 2000. At the Genome Research Institute, he expanded gene function research and the dissemination of genetic technology in the biomedical community, an effort he began as President of the Human Genome Organization from 1993 to 1996.
He has served Baylor College of Medicine for nearly 30 years in several senior positions, including as Chairman of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, where he continues to be an adjunct professor.
Dr. Caskey has been awarded numerous academic and industry-related honors for his work in human genetics. Dr. Caskey received the Distinguished Texas Geneticist Award. Dr. Caskey serves on several national research review panels, including the Intramural Human Genome Projects Special Review Committee at the National Institutes of Health and on the editorial boards of the Journal of the American Medical Association and Science.
He is a member of the Institute of Medicine and the National Academy of Sciences. He also serves on the boards of several corporations, including Lexicon, MDS, En Vivo, Odyssey and Argolyn. Dr. Caskey is Associate Director of the Essex Woodlands Fund and serves on the Committee of 17 for Texas Governor Perry, which has oversight for an Emerging Technology Fund.
Dr. Caskey earned his medical doctorate from Duke University and is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Clinical Genetics, Metabolic Diseases, and Molecular Diagnostics.
