Edward E. David, Jr. advises on R&D strategic planning and management, intellectual property, technology transfer, enhancing corporate research programs, and developing corporate-academic research partnerships. Dr. David served as Science Advisor to the President and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology from 1970–1973. From 1977–1986, he was President of Exxon Research and Engineering Company. Dr. David spent the first two decades of his research career at Bell Telephone Laboratories, latterly as Executive Director. He has also served as the U.S. Representative to the NATO Science Committee.
Dr. David is currently on the board of several businesses and on technical advisory boards both nationally and abroad. He is the president of EED, Inc. He is a life member of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (the university board), where he served as a member of the Executive Committee for 15 years.
Dr. David is a member of the American Philosophical Society, the National Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Public Administration, the National Academy of Sciences, and is a trustee of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. He is a life member of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Life Fellow of the IEEE. He has received numerous awards, including the Arthur M. Bueche Award from the National Academy of Engineering and the MIT Silver Stein Award and is the recipient of twelve honorary degrees. He was inducted into the Georgia Institute of Technology Hall of Fame in 1994.
