The planning and implementation of new research agendas is the focus of our R&D Strategies practice. This practice area is not restricted to any one discipline or institutional sector. The process of scientific decision-making and resource allocation is the same whether an investment is being made by an R&D corporations, government agency, university or foundation. Several broad themes inform our R&D Strategies practice:
Corporate-University Partnerships
Corporations with R&D activity need to interact closely and productively with universities. In an “open innovation” paradigm, less basic research is done in corporate research labs, and corporations partner with research universities for the next generation of technologies.
Venture Advising
With proven biomedical, life science, and telecommunications experience, and access to a broad network of experts, The Washington Advisory Group is uniquely qualified to advise venture capital management. We draw on our Directors’ deep knowledge as practicing scientists and as executives of scientific and technological organizations identify major industry trends and new areas of investment for venture capital.
Science Policy
Washington Advisory Group experts are also deeply involved with issues of science policy; for example, the relationship between climate change and energy. We have published reports on carbon dioxide sequestration and market-based steps that can be taken to mitigate the effects of global warming.
Promoting New Research
The Washington Advisory Group organizes workshops and symposiums and can help prepare and publish scientific reports to help clients establish and promote new research agendas. We have worked with the Jules Stein Foundation in Los Angeles, for example, to help clinicians and bench researchers in opthamology work together and develop strategies for moving basic research into clinical practice in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disease.
